The BMW Group was founded in Munich in 1916 as "Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG” (Bavarian Aircraft Works). Currently it has 23 production and assembly plants in 12 countries with 106,000 associates worldwide. The BMW Group clearly increased its sales by 3.5% in 2006. Worldwide, 1,373,926 automobiles were delivered. Sales of the BMW brand reached 1,185,049. 188,072 MINIs and 805 Phantoms were delivered. 2006 was also a great year for BMW Motorcycles, with sales reaching 100,064 units. In the first half year of 2007, 730,285 BMWs, MINIs, and Rolls-Royces were delivered, a year-on-year increase of 4.6%.

BMW is the abbreviation of Bayerische Motoren Werke and in China is translated into Chinese “Bao Ma”. The BMW Group concentrated initially on the development and production of aero engines. The blue and white BMW logo symbolizes the rotating propeller, reflecting the early age of the BMW Group.
BMW Group Region China
“BMW Group Region China” is one of the five regional sales divisions* within the BMW Group, responsible for all BMW Group activities in the Chinese markets (the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong SAR, Macau, and Taiwan).
* Altogether, the sales organization of the BMW Group now consists of the regions Germany, Europe, Americas, Asia/Pacific/Africa/Eastern Europe and China.
Retail sales in the Chinese markets
In 2006, the Chinese Mainland market still kept strong growth momentum with record sales of 36,357 units including 35,300 BMW cars and 1,057 MINI cars, among which locally produced BMW cars by BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. reached 22,550 units. Sales in the BMW Group Region China (Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) also reached record of 44,710 units of BMW and MINI cars.
In 2006, Chinese Mainland continued to be the second largest market worldwide for BMW 7 series by selling 7,522 units, a 32% growth from 2005 (which delivered 5,700 units). BMW has taken more than 20% share of the high-end automotive market in Mainland China.
In the first half year of 2007, BMW Group has continued to grow quickly in Chinese Mainland. Sales were up 38% compared with the same period of last year, delivering 23,667 units of BMWs and MINIs. 22,891 units of BMWs and 776 units of MINIs were delivered. In the first six months, BMW Group Region China (Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) delivered 28,327 units BMWs and MINIs in total.

2006年,中国大陆继续成为BMW 7系的全球第二大市场,销量达7,522辆,增长32% (2005:5,700辆)。BMW在中国大陆的高档车市场取得了超过20%的市场份额。
